These are companies that are primarily building or have built software that allows management of an educational institute. Typically these products would have modules like Admissions, Fee collection, Students management, Time table, Assessment and Results etc. There are just too many options out there in this field. There are many companies that have specialized in building eLearning media and solutions. Most of these companies develop content for K12 and higher education. Some of the companies in this field are
- Hurix Systems – Apart from providing digital content to different publishing companies they seem to have diversified into cloud space with two different offerings i.e. Kitaboo and Dictera. Kitaboo is an eBook publishing platform and allows publishing eBooks in several formats. Dictera is a content collaboration and publishing platform.
- iDiscoveri – Created lesson plans for K12 education. Marketing the product as XSEED.
- Everonn – They claim to be the largest VSAT education network in the world. Focused on skills based training they seem to have diversified into building schools etc now.
- Mexus Education – They have created lot of eLearning media which seems to have been deployed in schools. They have diversified into assessments similar to Olymoiads . They market using the brand name iKen.
- Tata Interactive Systems – Tata Interactive Systems apart from other domains has good presence in Education sector. They have products / content for K-12 as well as for higher education.
Massive open online course
Latest but a massively huge entrant in the education sector is MOOC i.e. massive open online course. Similar to open source this can be a game changer in education sector. MOOCs are courses open to everyone for free. Most of the MOOC courses are designed and delivered by University professors. Only difference between a MOOC and a university course that you don’t get any credit awarded for these course. Some of the most popular of these online courses are
